The Elbrus is considered to be the highest peak of Europe. The Western summit stands at 5 642 m (18 510ft). I have once, in 1995 or -96, made it to the saddle (5 300 m) of that tween volcano
The highest peak of Europe, well, good enough. For some... But other keen-witted guys wanted more - they brought a stepladder and became the top mountaineers in Europe
What really bothers me in that picture is the 32 kg (70.5 pounds) weight by the ladder... What the heck is it doing there? The only explanation that I have is that the guys took it with them just for the case the way up was too difficult, and then they could drop it...
